Summary

Few in the media have followed Antifa more closely - and have the scars to prove it - than journalist Jack Posobiec。

From infiltrating their 2016 meetings where they planned their attack on Trump's inauguration to going undercover in Seattle's CHAZ in 2020, Posobiec has never backed down from exposing the true nature of Antifa。

In The Antifa, Posobiec uncovers the secret history of this radical anarchist group, while integrating his personal encounters with some of its most hardcore and violent members。 While until recently few Americans were aware of Antifa's existence, Posobiec shows that, in fact, it is part of a violent revolutionary tradition that dates back more than a hundred years。

Like its predecessors, most recently including the Weathermen terrorists of the 1960's, it is driven by an overriding aim: the overthrow of the existing political order and capitalism itself, and replacing it with a communist state。

Antifa saw and seized its chance in 2020。 Because it was not brought to heel - indeed, was encouraged in its violent mayhem by sympathetic city and state governments -- it now looms as a greater threat than ever before。 In fact, as Posobiec shows, Antifa is today better positioned than were any of its radical forebears to actually achieve its goal。

This could have been good if it did not seem like the author was almost putting everyone associated with Antifa on a pedestal of honor。 Trump supporters and sympathizers made the threat/popularization of Antifa even more prominent than it should have been。 This could have been he neutral book/research about Antifa that was needed except the author's POV made Antifa ok。 WTF ? Seriously? How is this ok?Disappointed。 Cannot recommend。 Skim read most of this。Thanks to Netgalley, Jack Posobiec and Bo This could have been good if it did not seem like the author was almost putting everyone associated with Antifa on a pedestal of honor。 Trump supporters and sympathizers made the threat/popularization of Antifa even more prominent than it should have been。 This could have been he neutral book/research about Antifa that was needed except the author's POV made Antifa ok。 WTF ? Jack Posobiec appears to be a neo-nazi and GRU asset。

As one would expect, this is indeed an opinionated and biased piece that mostly serves to criticize and demonize the American incarnation of Antifa that has quickly risen into the public consciousness throughout the past few years。 Most notably during the Trump presidency and most violently as far as it seems during 2020 and into 2021。For folks that can read between the lines and through the opinions (which I would hope is any reasonable adult。。ha。) there are some interesting observations about As one would expect, this is indeed an opinionated and biased piece that mostly serves to criticize and demonize the American incarnation of Antifa that has quickly risen into the public consciousness throughout the past few years。 Most notably during the Trump presidency and most violently as far as it seems during 2020 and into 2021。For folks that can read between the lines and through the opinions (which I would hope is any reasonable adult。。ha。) there are some interesting observations about how Antifa works, their involvement with other extremist groups, and a recap of past actions that have resulted in violence and death。 None of this would be surprising to anyone that has been paying attention。The one chapter that stood out and feels like it almost undermines the rest of the book covers "Boogalo Boys", another group that has gained more press coverage the past year or so。 The first difference I noticed in this chapter was the different use of language。 Through most of the book, the term "assault rifle" is not used - which would align more with what I would assume is Posobiec's choice of 2A language since it is often argued that "assault rifle" cannot truly be defined。 Here, it is specifically used while describing violent acts that have been allegedly tied to Boogalo Boys。 It felt like such a departure from the typical right-wing pro-2A stance to specifically mention "assault rifle" and use it as a sort of indicator of neer-do-well Boogalo Boy extremists。 This particular chapter goes hard into condemning the Boogalo Boys, which may be entirely justified。 However, my observations of this "movement" indicate it is primarily spurred by a blending of internet meme culture, SHTF/Prepper types, and much more, often perhaps even "far-left", liberal gun culture。 Not the typical "gun nuts" that we are told come with the territory。 The Hawaiian shirts, short shorts, and tactical gear including banana painted AK mags, morale patches of igloos and palm trees, along with a lot of inside jokes paint it as a fun joke - and I believe that it mostly is。 Obviously, there is an overall anti-state sentiment, but it doesn't seem there is any real cohesion or active effort in this realm other than a few outliers that take the joke far too seriously。 The acts of Boogalo Boy violence listed in THE ANTIFA would have one thinking otherwise。 People that claim to be part of a boogalo group or movement, that otherwise would just be another "crazy person" in the headlines。 It is here where this chapter reads more like a mainstream entertainment media piece that acts as extremist fetishization and fear mongering。 One could argue the whole book does this, but it really sticks out here when contrasted with the more concrete extremist nature of Antifa throughout the rest of the book。Was this book worth the read? Perhaps。 It complements Unmasked: Inside Antifa's Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy quite well but I found Ngo's work more interesting。 Just be aware of who is writing it and contemplate the possible motives of why it was written, just as you would Ngo's book。 。。。more
